NABAEMC 20th Anniversary Conference – London 2016

Jeanette Arnold2016 sees the National Association of Black, Asian and Ethnic Minority Councillors celebrate it’s 20th anniversary. This fantastic achievement was celebrated the NABAEMC conference held at City Hall, London on 14th May 2016. It was a pleasure have as our hist and London Assembly member Jeanette Arnold OBE.

 

The topic for the conference was ‘Empowering Black, Asian and Ethnic Minority Councillors to meet the challenges of devolution‘.

The direction of travel at present with councils is that more power and responsibility is being devolved to local government and this was the over-arching theme of our conference.

Guest speaker Rebecca Cox, Principal Policy Adviser, Local Government Association (LGA) presented an overview of devolution.

Guest speaker Dr Nabihah Sachedina, Director of the London Health and Care Devolution Programme presented a talk on Health & Care Services and the challenges on devolution in this area.

Our next guest speaker was Mike Franklin, Former IPCC Commissioner gave a presentation on rising to the challenge of criminal justice devolution.
